A: Poured a golden-copper color with little head and almost no retention; a nice crisp, clean, and filtered look.
S: Prominent honey sweetness along with subtle Belgian spices.
T: The initial flavor that is picked up was a delicate honey sweetness followed by allspice, hints of cinnamon, and more Belgian spices. The spices also seem to contribute much more than just flavor, by balancing out and mellowing the bitterness factor that this beer may have originally had.
M: The flavor would indicate that this beer is more full-bodied than anything else, but it was much lighter in character. Carbonation was a bit high, but the medium to light body make-up made it a very refreshing beer.
D: At 7.8% ABV, there was practically no alcohol presence at all. This Belgian Strong Ale is a full-flavored beer that can be enjoyed at anytime during the year, and light enough to even enjoy another pint on top of it!
Overall: I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor this Belgian Strong Ale exhibited. I was expecting something not as sweet (more bitter) with an abundant amount of spices. It actually turned out to be a nice balance between sweet malts and spices, and flavor that was very distinct. A try it beer. Cheers!

Offered as the beer counterpart to the appetizer of steamed mussels in a lobster sauce at the Taps beer dinner last night, this rendition of a Belgian strong ale had a slightly clouded dark amber color topped by a bubbly, persistent white head that left some streaky lace.
The nose had me immediately thinking of their hefeweizen, mainly due to the easily discernible banana and clove aromas over a bready malt note. As I inhaled a few more times, I was able to detect some light coriander and white pepper aromas as well as some other tropical fruits.
Tasting reinforced the hefeweizen first impression as the banana-and-clove flavor was in abundance. A yeasty malt flavor provided a solid platform for the other tastes to launch from. Mid-palate was a fruitiness I couldn't place until someone said "persimmons". The finish had a decent, though not all that potent, spiciness that closed things out well. The alcohol was faintly present, creeping out as the beer warmed but not to distraction. The feel was medium-bodied, creamy and smooth with lots of fine carbonation.
Overall, this was my favorite beer of the night. It went real well with the seafood and was good for a couple pints.
