On tap at Mohawk Bend in Los Angeles, CA.
Pours a murky dark orange-brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, caramel, citrus zest, and wood aromas. Taste is much the same with caramel and citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of woody bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a woody presence that is especially noticeable in the flavor.

Had this right after the Barleywine, seems similar but maybe not quite as good.
The look is crimson with some head almost dark brown. The smell has notes of rye and oak aging with lots of barleywine smells I'd say like burnt caramel, ripe fruit, toffee. Not super complex smells and not really aromatic, had to get in there. Some prunes too, oxidized aromas.
T: Nice malty and savory flavor, the barrel melds in nicely to the heavy malts. Caramel and a little vanilla flutters. Sweet raisins covered in brown sugar and molasses. A layered brew, barrel is a nice frame.
M: Smooth without much alcohol bite and thick. Great.
Dug the beer, but it got sweet and harder to get through as I drank.

T: Nice malty and savory flavor, the barrel melds in nicely to the heavy malts. Caramel and a little vanilla flutters. Sweet raisins covered in brown sugar and molasses. A layered brew, barrel is a nice frame.
M: Smooth without much alcohol bite and thick. Great.

The beer is copper hued, with an off white head that sticks around for a bit, leaving sparse lacing on the glass. The aroma offers a huge oak presence, a big ass oak presence, as well as a formidable oak presence. Additional notes of malt, hops, and some caramel malt. Good flavor, but dominated by oak. I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the Taps barleywine. Lingering oak and vanilla flavors. A good beer.

Had at the brewpub on a recent trip to Cali. Served from bottle into a goblet. Poured reddish-brown with a one finger off-white head. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, fruit, and slight oak. The flavor was of sweet malt, flower petals, fruit, and slight oak. It had a medium feel on the palate with low carbonation. Overall this one wasn't that bad, but it also wasn't that great. It went down pretty smooth considering the alcohol (11% ABV IIRC). The fruity aspect kind of threw me off on this brew. This one is definitely worth trying given that you are the brewpub.

S: The oak really comes through strongly on this beer. It's amazingly toasty and just wood in general. Some roasted malts, burnt sugar, toffee, and a bit of sweetness. Not as much vanilla or sweetness as I was expecting.
T: Like with the nose, the oak is really what dominates the flavor. The oak seems to have a really heavy toast/char on it, because that's mostly what I taste. It leaves the beer a lot more toasty, tannic, and woody than I would like for an old ale.
M: The body is medium to full with a moderate level of carbonation.
D: This was somewhere in between Hillbilly and Remy in terms of my enjoyment. It wasn't bad, but for a barleywine/old ale, I like to get that sweetness out of it.

Had this at TAPS Brea after the Bruery RS party.
A - Pours a reddish brown, almost rust colored. Very little lacing.
S - Malty and oaky, with even some red wine notes as well (maybe a Cab?). A tab bit of oranges in the nose as well.
T - Sweet, oaky, and a little wine-like as well. Nice malt backbone on this. Floral and citrus notes as well.
M - smooth, fairly low carbonation. Somewhat dry.
D - Very much so. Just goes down very easy and the alcohol is masked very well.
I went into to TAPS for Remy, but ended up leaving loving Jive a bit more. Victor Novak is a very talented brewer and I'm excited by more of his one-off beers.

At TAPS in Brea for my mom's birthday :)
A nice amber hue with a light, toasted cream-colored head. Minimal lacing.
Sweet, malty aroma with hints of oak and a light mix of stone-fruit and citrus undertones. Alcohol is fairly subdued.
A sweet maltiness with a strong body of toast and wood. Hops are still alive but play a supporting role in this strong ale. Also a touch of black malt that sits in there nicely.
The feel is medium to full-bodied with minimal dryness for this high of an ABV beer.
Overall, I'm a big fan of this beer. The oak works as a perfect balance for this malt monster. Well worth a try!
