On-tap at Brix,
A: Pours a medium amber brown with a frothy yet crisp white head, fair retention, some lace.
S: Nuttiness, malt, interesting minerality, but nothing too substantial.
T: Strong malt character, a bit austere though, not really sweet in the way this style should be. Light hop character adds balance, a nice flavour, but that's it.
M: Medium-bodied, frothy soft carbonation, nice overall feel.
D: While the Helles was absolutely fantastic, this beer is just right in the middle, average in the style. There are some good points, but I don't plan on ordering this again.

On-tap at Taps (Brea)
A: The pour is a clear, dark amber color with a finger of dense, creamy, off-white head.
S: There is a strong nuttiness that comes through right away. Lager yeast is present as are some sweet toffee notes and a nice earthy hop character. Maybe a touch of banana in there.
T: I get a slight metallic taste up front but that gives way to toasted and nutty malts. A nice bread base to the beer along with some earthy and floral hops and a touch of banana.
M: The body and carbonation are both in the medium range.
D: Nicely done here without a lot of the obvious flaws that a lot of brewpub lagers seem to have (especially with darker specialty grains). The yeast comes through nicely as do the malts.
