Palate Contaminants: other beer
Look is wet straw-colored and opaque. Medium-fine head, and lots of it. Enough to leave some lacing.
Smell has tons of pine, and it's sharp. There's a fair bit of white grapefruit in there, with moderate bitterness and acidity.
The taste has just as much white grapefruit, but it takes a while for the pine to show up. It's almost like a pine sap-flavored club soda, so I guess the intensity could be better. Unfortunately, it's missing some of the complexities that have made NE IPAs that proverbial next new great thing.
Going into the aftertaste, the flavors fade very quickly. Carbonation is prickly, but the weight is more than I'd expect for the ABV. It's billed on the label as a "Session" NE IPA, so maybe they should just go all the way and see what happens.
