L- Superficially black, but with a halogen torch held behind I just see a faint red-brown glint though the side of the glass. Pours with 2mm khaki head.
S- Mild char and hints of smoke.
T- Pungent! And this one is from the fridge, so it'll intensify as it warms a touch. I haven't read the can, so have no leads on what this beer's highlights are. I don't get identifiable coffee. I do get a notably pungent huge roasted note, that really is at the heart of this. It's probable that part of the latter is a cocoa facet, although it's subtle enough to me to not leap out from the blend/balance. There is a dry hoppiness into the finish.
F- Impactful, very! And yet there is no sign of over-rich never mind outight sweet. I don't know about you but for me some Milk Stouts come over as tooth-bendingly sweet, and this 'Double Milk Stout' had me concerned. But no, banish those thoughts. It could be that the Taste is SO pungent that it's richness is over-shadowed...
O- ... either way, this is a superb beer. A really high-impact black beer ideal for December. Nothing out of place, or balance. Plus how they have a 2*Milk Stout without it even leaning towards sweetness is quite something. I'd happily drink this again.
440ml crafty-can. BB: 23/05/2021 Bought from TremblingMadness/York as part of a large multi-case DIY pick for home delivery to London. £4.25. [For context, of 1500+ beers to date, my scoring of this one will likely put it into my 'top-50']
