Had on-tap at the brewery in Sault Ste. Marie, MI on 12/22/11.
This beer pours a slightly hazy dark copper color. It has 2-fingers of off-white head resting on top. The head has good retention, and it leaves behind a nice sheet of lace on the glass. The nose has a good amount of toasted malt and caramel. There are some nice aromas of coriander, brown sugar, fruit, other spices and some booziness. The taste pretty much follows the nose. It starts off with some nice toasted malt flavor. There is a good amount of caramel, fruit, coriander, other spices, and brown sugar. Also,I am getting just a little bit of hop flavor coming through, as well as some booziness. The finish leaves some lingering caramel sweetness, spice, fruit, and slight booziness. This has a pretty full body and good carbonation. It goes down easy and has a really nice smooth feel to it. There is a nice bit of caramel sweetness and just a little bit of balancing bitterness. There is some alcohol warmth in the finish. This has good drinkability. The flavor is nice, and I wouldn't mind having a few, even with the high ABV. Overall, I think this is a nice beer and great for the season. It is a bit of a sipper, but very nice on those cold winter nights. I really enjoyed it, and I definitely recommend trying it out.
