Had on-tap at the brewery in Sault Ste. Marie, MI on 12/22/11.
This beer pours a nice clear amber color. There is a nice 2-finger slightly off-white head resting on top. The head has good retention, and it leaves some scattered lace behind on the glass. The nose has a good slightly toasted malt scent. There are some good aroams of citrus, tropical fruit, and piney hops. There is also a bit of floral scents to it as well. The taste follows the nose pretty well. It starts off with some nice lightly toasted malt and caramel. That is immedietly followed by a nice burst of piney hop flavor/bitterness. There are some nice flavors of tropical fruitiness and citrus as well. The finish leaves some lingering hop bitterness behind on the palate. This has a medium body and good carbonation. It goes down easy and has a nice smooth feel to it. There is a nice piney hop bitterness here, and some caramel sweetness in the background to help the balance. There is lingering hop bitterness on the back end. This has really nice drinkability. It is a solid IPA, and I could esily have a few throughout an evening. Overall, I think this is a really nice beer and a good representation of the style. I really enjoyed this one and I recommend trying it out.
