Look: Dark, clear amber. Half a finger of white head that quickly dissipates.

Smell: Sweet brown bread, caramel. No noticeable hops.

Taste: Sweet, doughy malt, milk chocolate, and toffee. Very tiny hop bitterness note on the aftertaste that immediately disappears.

Mouthfeel: Smooth body with high carbonation.

Overall: An unusually sweet but pleasant ale.

Probably my favorite of the the bunch I had during my week in the Soo. Rich in color and flavor, served in a shaker pint with a finger of off white foam. Nice warm malty aromas, with a bit of herbal hoppiness. Caramel, nut, bready malts with tea, herbal, and grassy hops flavors.

Sweet malt with toffee notes. More potent than most Irish red. Paired nicely with my lunch salad. On tap at Mary’s Bistro Tap House, Mackinac Island.

Draft. Quite a bit of carbonation. Slightly bitter. Pleasant taste - woody. Not a strong taste.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a becher pint glass. The appearance was a semi-dark amber to burnt red color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated at a decent pace. Light stringy lace. The aroma had some crisp semi-sweet to bitter grassy hops up front and then a nice roasted malt flowing into some nuts and a delicate caramel/toffee base. The flavor leads with the malts and runs together on into the aftertaste and finish. Hops sit far in the background all around. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Good carbonation and ABV. Fairly smooth with the malts and the roasty portions seems to help control the feel fairly nice. Overall, I don’t mind this as an Irish red ale. I’d have again.

Had on-tap at the Brewery in Sault Ste. Marie, MI.

This beer pours a slightly hazy reddish copper color. There is almost a 2-finger off-white head resting on top. The head has pretty good retention, and leaves a nice layer of lace behind on the glass. The nose has some fruity aromas such as cherry and apple. There is some sweet toasted maltiness as well as some toffee. The taste follows the nose pretty well. It starts off with some toasted malt flavors, caramel, and toffee. The fruit flavors indicated in the nose were present. There are some nutty flavors and a mild hop presence. The finish leaves some lingering toasted malt, caramel, and fruity flavors behind on the palate. This has a medium body and good carbonation. It goes down easy and has a nice smooth feel to it. There is a nice amount of sweetness here and a mild hop presence. It has a nice smooth well rounded feel to it. There is some lingering sweetness and hop presence in the finish. This has good drinkability. Even with it being 7.1% ABV I could easily have a few glasses of it throughout an evening. Overall, I think this is a really nice beer and a good example of the style. I enjoyed this one quite a bit, and I recommend you stop in and try out a pint of this one. I would buy it again.
