Sampled this one at the Pavo brewery in Zichron Yaákov. Poured into a Pavo tulip and served on a Pavo coaster- the glass, the pour, the 1/4inch cream-white head and the view from the bar at the brewery were all a thing of beauty, so no hesitation with the high appearance score. Excellent head retention as well.
Nose was roasted malts with some slight cola nuttiness, pretty much what you'd expect for the style. Taste follows with stronger cola flavors. This is one dry, well attenuated Stout. There's some tartness on the finish and an earthiness similar to what I detected in their IPA, but here it's less distracting. I would rather have head more roasty nutty flavors.
Solid, creamy mouthfeel from the nitro tap. I must say I enjoyed the view from the bar more than my beer (maybe not fair since the view is spectacular), and with the earthy clay-like finish I'm not sure folks will be trading their Guiness for this one. The Dry Stout seems to be a popular style in Israel. If you're not looking for a session beer try Pavo's Tripel.
