From June 10th at The Woodman with my old English mates. Lasting finish to this nice pint of bitter.

500 ml bottle, from Gulating Ølutsalg, Stavanger. ABV is 4.3%. Brown to dark amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma of malts, chocolate and dark berries. Malty flavour but fairly dry, slight roast, again notes of chocolate, hints of caramel, a little fruit. Moderate hops. Still much better than expected after reading some other ratings, more than nice enough to drink. Might well buy again.

look: thin head on this one, some bubbles, good lacing, also somewhat creamy looking, like the top of an espresso, not much carbonation within, beer a deep mahogany to ruby red colour.

smell: smoky rich malt, a little coffee, a little sour fruit somewhat like sour cherry maybe, some bitterness, not a strong aroma but a nice one.

taste: super malty toasty smokey flavours at first, a touch of caramel sweetness, some red grape, a lovely mild hoppy bitterness, and just an exquisite finish, smooth and smoky, some fudge, a tad grassy, very very nice.

feel: medium to full bodied, light carbonation, so smooth, so drinkable, the finish is just so good, somewhat dry and crisp.

overall: what a beer, super tasty, quite rich, yet mild in alcohol and sessionable, great stuff.

Christmas Day 2012 ( ten past midnight and I've just finished preparing for later): I need a beer.

500ml bottle conditioned: poured slowly into an 'Old Speckled Hen' badged pint vase.

Nice looking brew: an off-white foaming head sat on top of reddy/brown coloured beer, sadly some of the sediment got out of the bottle so it had a slight hazy hue within the body.

Malts rule the roost: caramel nose and taste but not overly sweet. Pleasant blend of ingrediants with a bitter hop backbone running through the maltiness of the main flavours. An OK beer rather than a great brew: would happily try a cask version given the chance though.
