Cut my teeth on Parkbrau Pilsner and Pirminator back in the day. This beer brings back great memories of my ill spent youth in Germany. I don't think we ever went out on the weekend without at least one six pack of Parkbrau under our arm. Wish I could find it stateside, but haven't had any luck so far. If anyone knows where to pick some up on the East coast, please let me know.

Pirminator. Ask most GIs in Germany about it back in the Cold War and they would get sort of a dreamy eyed look about them. In some ways it was almost legendary. Then it was seasonal, now, it seems obtainable at Ramstein year-round. I always found it decent, but that may stem from the fact that, during the Cold War, I lived about a 1/4 mile from the Parkbrauerei and it has pleasant memories. Often found in flippies now, it pours with a nice head and tastes malty like you would expect.

Best by date: 09/15/2015. Poured from a .5 liter flip-top bottle into a weizenbier glass. Kicked up a nice one-inch white fluffy head that quickly faded to a thin film, no lacing. Clear golden color. The aroma is very bready and sweet malty, with some very slight grassy notes. The flavor was pretty sweet and malty up front, with a touch of bitterness and alcohol. The mouthfeel was pretty light for the style, and the alcohol put a bit of a bite on the back of the tongue. Overall, this one is just OK, nothing bad about it, just not anything special either. Had to try one for "old time's sake".

Nice seasonal from Park. Mild malty aroma, taste is malt with some spiciness. Color is deep gold with a nice airy head. This is decent, and from my local brewery, so I’ll give it props.

It is true this beer is everywhere in Germany and there are all sorts of legends about it thought up by drunk Americans.

Appearance- It does have a nice gold color for a bock it is not as dark as most beers this style. Sometimes it has great head lace and sometimes it doesn't.

Smell- It is a very sweet smelling beer that reeks of malt.

Taste- Very bread like and metallic.

Mouthfeel- Thick and fizzy but a little bit syrupy

Drinkability- Average but there are so many better ones to choose from

Lived in Germany for 6 years and this was the party beer, fairly affordable back then and would get you drunk quick. Not sure now, but in the early 80's it was a seasonal beer, you would start seeing a lot of it during the Fasching celebration and through Christmas.
As for flavor, strong alcohol taste...not very impressive otherwise.
Oh, and I had a beer man deliver it right to my door...kinda' like the milk man in the old days.

Park Pirminator sporting the familiar red diamond "P" trademark is best served a bit colder (40-45F) than normal. The Pirminator poured up rather dull & fizzy into a stemmed bock-style tumbler. The loose, whitish head on top of the pale-deep golden body collapsed almost immediately after being poured. Very poor head retention per style. The aroma has some sweet graininess & cracker-like maltiness, but is mostly dominated by sulphery notes, sweet corn (DMS) and noticeable alcoholic overtones. The flavor starts off slightly biscuity with a light, grainy sweetness, but turns quickly towards a rather marked bitterness and ends in a straight-forward alcoholic fashion. The body is rather light and lacks creaminess per style. This is a fine spezialitäten beer, but I was honestly expecting a bit more from this infamous Rheinland brewery. I've long been a fan of the Pils, but the Pirminator lacked complexity and honestly didn't do much for me. This hellesbock would certainly be a decent aperitif with rich, soft-ripened goat cheese or paired with traditional German Jager Schnitzel smothered with sautéed mushrooms. Here's to the Seitz family & their Little "P" Man.
