Poured from a 330mL bottle into a snifter. Bottle labeled best before August 3, 2012.

A: Poured a nice, red/pink color with a two finger white head with just a tinge of pink. Looks like if you put just a drop or two of red food coloring into a glass of champagne.

S: Barley, hops, beets. Really. It smells like beets.

T: Barley, beets and hops. The beet flavor is immediately evident and very interesting.

M: Surprisingly big, though its clear that is because of the beets. Well carbonated.

I saw this beer and was curious. I've heard a bit about Barney's, a brand new, tiny craft brewery in Scotland, which further enticed me. They beer is intriguing, the beet flavor is surprisingly complimentary to the barley. I don't love this brew, but it's definitely worth trying.

Brewed at the Tryst Brewery by a local brewer this really does contain beet root. Was kept almost by its Best Before date which meant the colour had faded to a light pink reminiscent of pink champagne. Slighty spritzy body, ever the quarter inch fluffy head has a slight pink tinge to it. There is a slight sweetness on the palate which is well supported by firm slick and almost floury body which has a pleasant well complimented flexing bitterness. The beetroot element is well restrained and adds and interesting component of thee whole.
Much better than you would expect.
