Roasty coffee aroma and medium-bodied with caramel and roasted malt notes. Finish is dry and robust.

5oz at brewery:
A lovely dark brown with lighter glowing edges. Off-white head produces a little bit of lacing.
Nose has s coffee and cigarette note to it. It’s uncertain if coffee was added fromthe description, but I believe it was an ingredient of some sorts. There’s a hint of caramel underneath. Not typical brown ale scents, but an interesting nose.
Taste has a medium toast malt presence but it gets pushed down by an aggressive and mildly astringent coffee flavor. This fades to let some caramel malt notes come forward. A woody to nutty coffee bitterness balances the malt a little.
Medium body at most, the boldness of the beer adds some heft. Moderate carbonation.
I’d like to have a crack at the base brown, as the coffee distracts me from one I think I might like. It’s a decent coffee brown as it sits, though. This is listed as 6%, but does remind me just a little of Founders Sumatra Mountain in its general profile.
