I had this on tap at the brewpub.
Poured a slightly amber caramel color. The lavender stands out immediately, both on the nose and on the sip. Really, it is like drinking a candle. Pass.

No bottle dating so I don't know exactly how old the beer is, but I'm guessing 4-8 weeks based on when my MI buddy purchased and shipped me a local package.
Pretty interesting beer right from the initial pour. Body is a fairly deep brown with slight ruby notes, totally opaque (though not hazy), with a solid off-white head that resembles coffee foam in terms of its looks, consistency, and resilience. Would think this is a rye IPA (similar to one of their other offerings) given the dark coloring.
The aromas are the most interesting part of the beer, as the lavender and chamomile are very present and truly unique. I certainly get some citrus, as well, but wouldn't have identified it as being orange zest if it wasn't mentioned on the label. This is a very bready, malt-dominated IPA, which may be intentional or may be a result of the age of the bottle (or some of both). Regardless, there's dankness, a strong tea presence, some citrus, waves and waves of bready malt, with the lavender and chamomile peaking their individual heads through consistently. Would be somewhat uninteresting without those two characteristics, but the lavender is really wonderful and pulls this from a highly average (maybe below-average) smelling IPA to something truly intriguing and unique. On some inhalations it makes for an almost fruity profile, while others it remains extremely herbal and flowery. Really interesting.
Unfortunately the lavender, chamomile, and orange zest don't elevate the flavor profile nearly as much. Bready, bitter (resiny and pithy), almost soapy, with notes of citrus and then a muddling of flowery, grassy characteristics. It's different and really gets you concentrating hard to try to identify the various nuances and notes. And that certainly makes for an interesting sipper, which would be fascinating to try pairing with different foods that might compliment the additive plants, flowers, and fruit skin. But as a stand alone IPA drinking experience, it's a little odd and doesn't have anything balancing out the sharp, pithy bitterness.
Feel is silky, smooth, medium bodied for a 6% non-NE IPA, and nicely carbonated.
Like I've said multiple times, very interesting beer that I'd love to try with food. Not sure seek out a a pint (or more) of it on its own, however.
