Amarillo hops sure are underrated when used properly...

While I am sure that the basic recipe was the standard BJ's Piranha Pale Ale, the use of those hops named after a city in Texas add a whole new dimension.

The nose is a citrus lovers delight with more grapefruit than a Florida Chamber of Commerce commercial. The promises made by the nose come through loud and clear with a finish which is wicked dry and pure citrus hop heaven.

A very drinkable X Pale Ale. It poured a light amber color with a small white head that faded quickly. The smell was very sweet with a slight hop scent that broke through the light malty sceents. The flavor was of light citrus hops and a clean malt backbone but nothng special that jumped out at me.
An average pale ale at best, very drinkable but it might get a bit borring for the experienced beer drinkers out there.

This was a "special brew" on tap at the BJ's in Arcadia. Sitting in its pint glass, the XPA (Extra Pale Ale) had a clear amber color with moderate carbonation and a foamy white head that left nice lacing in the glass.
The nose was malty-sweet, with a lot of caramel and grain. Also evident was a fruity, citrusy floral aroma and a much milder hint of herbal hops. Not bad, but the aromas seemed to fade in and out. The taste had a mildly earthy maltiness overlaying a caramel-and-toffee sweetness. This was overcome by a citrusy hoppiness that clung to the palate through the finish. The feel was medium-bodied and smooth with a drying finish.
Overall, a decent, if unremarkable, beer. Not bad but nothing to jump up and down about, either.
