Tasted from a snifter at the BJ's in Waco, TX.
Served too cold, damping some of the aromas and flavors until I was able to warm the snifter in my hands. Dark beer with good clarity; very little head or lacing. Good bourbon aroma, but not much else on the nose. Similar on the palate, where bourbon drowns out other flavors, rather than softening them and adding complexity like the best examples do. A light dark chocolate note emerged as it warmed. Light to medium body; prickly carbonation. Strong hops bitterness and alcohol presence would make this an imposing beer to anyone new to the style.
Despite being an aggressive take on the style, this is not a deep and complex one, so it's not a great example of it.

Pours black with a thick tan head that fades away. Aroma is light roasted barley and slight bourbon notes. Taste follows with a satifying bourbon burn. Feel is ok for a stout, but not too creamy. Overall a decent stout, worth a try.

Tried this in BJ's El Paso location, the bartender said all their house beers come from Temple. So I'll take his word for it. He didn't know if was barrel aged Tatonka or not, if anyone knows and can update this information, that would be nice.
As for this beer itself, it looks good with a slowly receding head that leaves a nice dark tan to light brown lacing above a quite dark beer. I think it's sat long enough, let's try it.
Bourbon and dark roasted malt aroma transfers incredibly well to the taste. Not Firestone Walker worthy but still a pretty darn good stout. Fits the style and billing well. Go, try, enjoy.
