I find it very unique to get an honest-to-goodness Belgium Ale from any brewpub in California. This was a wonderful discovery.
Pours deep, deep amber...almost black with a solid two finger tan head that melts very slowly to a nice sticky lacing lasting the entire glass.
Aroma is initially Belgium yeast followed by a toasted caramel malt scent.
Taste is definitely belgium....there is no mistaking that yeast....rich tasted caramel and a slight bitter hop finish. As the beer warms, an almost Smokey flavor gets added to the mix.
Mouthfeel is bright and refreshing from the tiny carbonation and sharp hops. A pleasant drying finishes this beer.
Slight aftertaste of the Belgium yeast and sweet malt but still drying.
A little too enjoyable. I had two pints in the restaurant with dinner and brought home a growler. My guess would put the ABV at around 6-7% just based on how i feel after drinking these.
HIGHLY recommended if you get the chance to find it.
