On tap at the brewpub

A - Poured a copper color with a white head that fades quickly

S - Is of citrus hops on a caramel malt backing

T - Follows the nose with citrus hops upfront then the caramel malt come through

M - This beer has a medium body with medium carbonation to it

O - Overall this is a pretty well balanced IPA that's easy to drink and one that I could drink a few of in a sitting a pretty safe beer to get and be happy

A- Pours a pretty clear orangeish amber color with a foamy beige head. Head has good retention and leaves some spotty lacing.

S- Smell is piney and citrus hops with just a slight malt back bone here.

T- Probably one of their better offerings and I never see it on the menu. You'll have to ask for it if you want. Taste is piney and citrus hops, with a bit of sweetness from the malts. Has a nice bitterness to it.

M- Medium in body and carbonation.

D- Again the best I've had from this chain. Pretty easy to drink and not too bad.

Has this on tap in a quasi-pilsner glass from BJ's. Came to me with absolutely zero head. Sniffed it and got a huge whiff of citrus (lemon and grapefruit). Amazing nose. Flavor was balanced out citrusy hops with a good deal of malt. Refreshing and could well be BJ's best beer. Mildly sweet. Mouthfeel was smooth, low in carbonation. Finished nicely bitter with grapefruit rind. I'm not a fan of the BJ's beers, but this is an exceptional brew.

At bj's in Vacaville ca.

A- nice bright color. Slightly red but the head leaves a lot to be desired. Minimal lacing and almost no visible carbonation.

S- syrupy and sweet. Smell is probably the best aspect of this beer. That's not saying much. ( befor considering mouthfeel)

T- a let down from the smell. Initially it's ok, good hops up front but fade quickly with a metalic aftertaste.

M- nice mouthfeel. Not too sticky and a good sample for the IPA style. A solid 4.5 for the intent. Nice job BJ.

D- probably not a return customer on this one but for a first time ipa'er this is a reasonable and accesable option.

I thought this wasn't bad. I visit BJ's on occasion more for the food than the beer, but found this beer to be totally satisfactory. It looks, tastes and feels more-or-less like a decent IPA should. It had a persistent head which stuck around, a citrus-y and bitter favor, and an OK mouthfeel.

This beer was pretty good, but also was distinct from the best-of-class IPAs I've scored higher. It didn't have the robust malt structure to match the nice hoppiness it had. Its mouthfeel was a little thin. And the bitterness was a bit one-dimensional.

Still, pretty good. I'd have this again. I had it at the Columbus (OH) Bj's.

On draught at the Palmdale location. This beer pours a mostly clear orange-amber color with a medium thin and foamy light beige head that recedes slowly. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Piney hops and a touch of malt in the nose. Medium-bodied and moderately bitter with citrus and hops flavors underscored by pine and malt. The finish is somewhat bitter hops, albeit on the astringent and not flavorful side. Lingering hoppiness in the aftertaste. Overall a decent effort from this chain brewpub.
