Pours a semi clear dark brown color, looks murkier in the glass. A moderate sized tan foam head soon dissipates.

The nose opens sweetly with notes of chocolate, caramel and dark toasted biscuit. Aromas of lightly roasted malts, black malts, woodsy and earthy spices, and bright lemon like hops.

The taste opens with the sweetness of chocolate, caramel and biscuity malts. The palate soon dries up and evokes notes of crisp dark toasted malts, bittersweet cocoa, espresso, lemon, grass, and a smooth but slightly assertive hops bitterness.

Medium to light bodied. The mouthfeel is smooth and slightly mouth coating. The carbonation is moderate.

Nice example of a Dark Mild. Very sessionable.

Like Coney Island itself, this beer was a bit of a freak from the get-go onward. Was a Brown Ale? A Dark Ale? A Scottish Ale? It hardly had any alcohol in it but somehow as it felt stronger than it was in actuality. Easy to drink but not-so-easy to pinpoint, it had been ages since I had a beer as intriguing as this.

This poured brown and as clear as could be for it's darkened hue as it was topped off with a massive tan head that was plenty bubbly - especially near the top as the foam took a while to settle down. Only a few scattered sections of lacing remained as I worked my way through this with most of the suds sliding down the side of my pint glass after every sip. A bit of caramel and licorice in the nose with hints of chocolate, peat moss, and molasses in the taste although this was quite thin and watery on the palate. A light carbonation and moderate slickness that lingered on the palate added to this beer's ease of enjoyment as this easily and nearly mindlessly slid down the hatch.

A bit of dark bread and spice lingered in the aftertaste as this made it feel like an ale man's Schwarzbier as this finished relatively clean with some chewiness staying for the duration. No date on the bottom of the can and the label was something out of a 60's Pop Art gala, which only added to this beer's allure. Not the best of it's kind but this was a welcome break from my usual fare as it had me wondering when I was going to take the subway to the end and hit up the surf before any more of life gets away from me...
