I grabbed this when my buddy K and I were visiting our friend S in ZA (Knysna).
They got married today/yesterday. This is in their honour!!
The pour is a deep molasses brown that's not black, but definitely a very very dark brown. Nice little grey brown head that stays as a bubbly drift and fuzz.
Nose has a sweet caramelized marshmallow lead in, that fades to give way to some dark fruit, some dark chocolate, some spice, maybe a bit of licorice, and almost like some mint or something...
Flavour is of the like reverse order of the aroma: that menthol-y impression starts us off from the hops, with a touch of anise/licorice, some dark fruit (prune, plum), a touch of bakers chocolate that blossoms on the tongue joining the vanilla of the barrel to create a really pleasant finish.
Lightly fuzzy carbonation sits atop a body that's a bit on the thin side. The barreling adds a nice warmth, but not too much booze... it is only 8% after all, and that seems about right.
This is an interesting one, and I'm glad I grabbed it (for many reasons!)

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
