A sort of porter, bbe 01/15, quite light for such a dark colour beer. Surprisingly sprightly with a powerfully roasted coffe aroma, allthough quite light and fruity, with some bite on the palate.
Not my favourite style of beer, but compares to some of t he black IPAs out there.
The label notes chocolate, other than tha lasting, mouthfeel, and slight bitterness.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of Oct 2013, so it's just out of date. Acquired a little while back from Classic Wine & Beer in Oxford. Apparently this was Compass Brewery's first beer when they set up shop.
Poured into a tulip pint glass. A very dark brown hue that appears pitch black in the glass. Forms a diminuitive head of beige foam that lasts for a moment before disappearing. Aroma of fruity dark malt with hints of roasted grain, dried fruit, chocolate, faint molasses, ale yeast and a twinge of vanilla. Slightly sweet and grainy.
Tastes of dark malt with a mildly fruity character and a lingering finish. Notes of mild roasted malt, grain, dried fruit, chocolate, faint molasses, a twinge of stale coffee, a hint of vanilla, stewed leaves and ale yeast. Slightly sweet yet dry, followed by a restrained, malty bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with soft carbonation and a thin, insubstantial body for the style. Vaguely astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of dark, fruity malt, chocolate and earthy yeast.
Meh - not the best porter I've tried. Looks a bit lacklustre, with an aroma and flavour of sweet, dark malt that seems overly fruity; bordering on cloying. Not enough roasted malt character. Body is rather thin and watery. Not a brilliant effort - no need to hunt it down.
