Inspiration Coffee Vanilla Brown Ale, 7% ABV/34 IBU, on tap @ Crooked Flats, Eagle ID.
Hmmm...brown ale? Hazy gold is more like it; this thing looks like an IPA! Light, crisp aromas of fresh unroasted coffee and vanilla beans...taste follows, cold-brewed coffee notes and sweetness from the vanilla, bready malt...not roasty at all, which is kind of nice. Aromas and flavors are very buried, but OK. Medium body, fairly decent drinkability for the style.
Tough to gauge; the coffee isn't upfront and the vanilla is buried a bit, which is two strikes against. However, I dig that the coffee smelled and tasted fresh, and not burnt like a midnight-black espresso. It seemed to fit more with this beer, being a 7% brown ale. Not sure I'd need to revisit, but wouldn't turn it away if offered to me.
