Taster at brewery. Dark brown pour, tiny ring of head. Aroma and taste feature roasty coffee and lots of bitterness. Very coffee forward. You could serve this at Starbucks.

i must have had three dozen brown ales named downtown by now, a really lazy name for a beer at this point, especially one that hopes to be taken seriously at all. that said, this isnt bad, the base brown is really light so the coffee stands out pretty well. i wish it wasnt so sweet, but there is a chocolate and caramel note from the grain and the coffee together that i find appealing, even if its a little sweeter than i want to drink a bunch of. the body is light too, and so, unfortunately, is the carbonation, this could really use a life to keep it moving, especially once its warmed up a little, but the coffee is great in here and really makes the beer for me. its nutty and only mid range on the roast, not dark or ashy or bitter to my palate, with hints of chestnut and almond and even brown sugar alongside the malt. i think they could stand to flesh it out a little more with some grain body, and maybe let a little coffee acidity into the mix to cut some of the sweetness, but this is close to being quite good, and was one of the better beers we had here, although the standard wasnt super high overall. a good brown for warm weather, especially if they dry it out in future batches...
