Does not come off initially as very strong, faint malt aroma, dryness dominates.. Cloudy, dense amber body, small, but active beige soapy head, lots of lacing. Malt is most prevalent flavor, dry, chalky mouthfeel and finish. Easy to drink, alcohol warmth is very subtle and slowly warming. Take some time with this one.

#3 of 6 in the Exiled Series.
Picked up at the brewery tonight... Paid $8ish if memory serves... Poured into my HotD goblet... nice looking tannish head has good retention and lace.. the brew is a slightly hazed amber/red... could use some clarity to accentuate the "red".
Nose is pretty nice.. balanced between big malts and slightly lesser hops... piney hops balance nicely for the style.. malts show as never sweet, but dark toast and fermented out caramel.. background light cocoa with warmth.
Flavor has a nice bitterness that moves from front to back .. bigger malty profile that never is sweet, just a pleasant residual maltiness.. toasty and nutty.. just enough hops to invite another sip.
Fairly thick with the body.. medium/heavy viscosity is accentuated by a light small bubble carbonation.. sorta velvety... The bottle says 8.4%... I would have guessed around 7%.
This is a damn good beer that isn't going to do well with age. It is drinking at its peak right now. Keep it in the fridge.. The hunter is balanced nearly perfectly.
If anybody buys this thinking "American Strong Ale=Arrogant Bastard", you will be disappointed. This is a good beer to enjoy now... and not abrasive at all.
