Yellow, a little dark light hazy beer with a white head.

Nose: Garass, pine, caramel malt, wood, tobacco, smoke and bread.
Taste: Caramel, tobacco, oak, resin, smoked grain and pilsner malt.
Mouth: Medium body. High but smooth carbonation. Smooth beer! A smoaky taste but not to much! A dry bitter ending.

Brauerei Gasthof Hartmann "Hartmann Felsenkeller"
1,70€/,3l @ Brauerei Gasthof Hartmann in Würgau, DE on 19 September 2017

Notes: 4.9% ABV. Made with whiskey malts. Clear deep gold body beneath a densely creamy head of white. Excellent head retention and lacing. The whiskey malts are clear in the aroma but not too strong. It smells like the outdoors. The flavor delivers grainy and lightly caramelish malts with just a touch of the whiskey malts - it's very refined and certainly far from overdone. A median bitterness balances it and it's easy to drink. It's balanced even with the smokiness which gently lingers in the finish but never builds on the palate, even throughout an entire glass. In the mouth it's somewhere between light-medium and medium in body and gently crisp. Very nicely done. Perfect for sitting in the biergarten on a lat summer day as fall approaches.

T- Roasted malt, smoked grains, earthy spices. Mellows to mild bitter aftertaste.

Glass: ,5l glass Seidl

ABV is 4.9%

A: Towering, fluffy head. Barely got half the bottle into the mug before I had to let the head die off. Bubbles cascade up from the bottom and the head is pretty enduring. Cloudy, golden, comparable to an Am. IPA. Man these bubbles are pretty.

S: A little sweet, with a healthy dose of toasty German malt.

T: Clean and refreshing. Like the nose, I'm getting more toasty malt, probably Pils and/or Vienna, along with some sweetness on the finish. Not much hop action, just enough for balance.

M: Great. Smooth. (there's still some head here) The ample carbonation and slight sweetness makes it quite refreshing in the heat.

D: Fantastic. I have a feeling I would lose consciousness before I got tired of this beer.

Label reads "Felsenkeller mit einem Schuß Whiskymalz Naturtrüb". This bottle is 4.9% abv with a best before November 11th. Cream colored label. Back says something to the effect that it's a summer beer with sediment, and it's infused with tradition from Swiss Franconia (northeastern section of the state of Bavaria). A shot of whiskey malt gives character to this specialty brew. Glowing sunshine colored beer is quite hazy. Poured a small dense bright-white head that didn't last very long. There could be some noble hops in the aroma, but if there is it mixes well with the lightly smoked malt aroma. It's reminiscent of Schlenkela, but no where near as potent. Tastes like a wheat beer with a pinch of lemon zest. A raw, almost biting malt flavor kicks in midway through and never joins up with the original flavors. Light smoked malt in the finish. Almost sour up front with a smokey finish, interesting. The combination is almost whacky. It's more something I'd expect out of a homebrewer, but not a German brewery. I can't say it's great, but it's definitely interesting. Cool
