I was told this beer was brewed in collaboration with Third Rail for a Brooklyn-based restaurant (hence the Rail). That being said, I picked up a half-growler after tasting it at the brewery. At first I wasn't sure i'd want to get involved in 32 ozs of this, but all-in-all - considering the cold, snowy weekend - i'm happy i did it.
L - Poured into a goblet, slow forming creamy head, about finger wide upon rising. Then fairly quick to dissipate with bubbles rising fast to a clean surface. Black in appearance.
S - Roasted malt with - you guessed it - coconut!
T - (see smell).. Actually, there was some complexity in the taste. An initial nicely balanced bitterness that succumbed quickly to a perfectly underwhelming, yet tasty, coconut flavor. I say perfect because it was enough to say, "yes, this is a coconut porter", but not too sweet that i couldn't have more than one. Though, it did finish a little boozy.
M - Thin-bodied, wet, warm, very slight burn, medium-high carbonation finishes silky.
O - If you like coconut, you will like this porter. If you don't like coconut, you will probably like this porter..
