A recent visit to Kraftbräu left me with few dark beer options. I do like a good porter though, so I was glad to see that they had one available.
Appearance and smell were both about average for the style. The pour was nice and dark brown, almost blackish tones with a decent tan head on top. The head did evaporate quickly though. The smell was primarily malty.
The flavour was a bit odd though, as the focus seemed to be more on hops than on the roasted malty aspects that porters are generally known for. The flavour would start out with some malts, but then the hops would come in and take over the show with their piney aggressiveness. I personally didn't care for it.
The mouth and drinkability were both about middle of the road. The beer had some decent hop bite, so the mouth on it at least gets a mild mark up, and the beer was certainly easy enough to drink.
Overall: Not one of my favourites, and not very true to style.
