33cl bottle. Pitch black pour with a tall tan head with good retention. Roasted malts, cherries, brewed coffee as well as roasted coffee beans, pine resin. Medium bodied with soft carbonation and a hoppy chocolate bitter aftertaste.

From a 330ml bottle into a tulip pint.

A: Pours black, with a creamy tan head of abo. Good head retention. Decent lacing. No visible activity.
S: Chocolate and roasty malts. Some alcohol. Fruity citrus hops - grapefruit. some caramel notes in the background.
T: Roasty, and very coffee-like. Some sweetness. Quite bitter; a little overpowering - takes away from the fruityness.
M: Medium-full bodied. Drinks very smooth. Coats the mouth very nicely. A light dry finish. Carbonation is appropriate for the style, a little on the low side.

Overall: Pretty good. A little too roasty and coffee-like for a "black IPA" IMO. Would like to have more fruity and citrus hops come through. Enjoy the fact that it's fuller bodied than expected.

Got this at the Duvel guy down the road. This is a collaboration with Pampus in Amsterdam.

From a bottle into a snifter
EBC: 120
EBU: 70

APPEARANCE: A black pour yields a one finger, medium looking, creamy tan head with great retention. Black body with no real carbonation evident. Head fades to a full film and leaves some sticky lacing on the top of the glass. A splotchy wisp remains the whole way and leaves some good lacing down the glass. This is darker than a lot of the big stouts around here, and the head looks great.

SMELL: Roasted grain, dark chocolate, coffee, and lots of citrus hops on the nose. Grapefruit and citrus lemon notes, with chocolate and cocoa powder as well. Nice, big and bold. Good balance between hops and stout-like aromas.

TASTE: Roasted notes, cacao powder, dark chocolate, with some caramel sweetness up front. Very hoppy finish with burnt espresso beans, bitter dark chocolate, citrus hops, grapefruit, and a good dose of hop bitterness. More bitter than the 70 IBU suggests. Roasted grain, charred malts, bitter baker's chocolate, and bitter grapefruit hops linger on the palate. Bold and flavorful. A really good black IPA / Hoppy imperial stout.

PALATE: Medium-full body with medium levels of carbonation. Very creamy smooth on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes a bit sticky. Some bitterness lingers. Really good here.

OVERALL: This is perhaps the best overall beer that has come out of a Dutch craft brewery that's not called De Molen or Emelisse. It'd rival the best out of those breweries anyways. They call it a cascadian dark ale, but whatever it's called or listed as, it's great. Very well executed and wonderfully put together, with inspiring flavors and a feel worth writing home about. One of the best. If you get a chance to try this, don't hesitate. I would send it out to my buddies en mass if they knew who these guys were. Highly recommended. Cheers guys!

On draught at In De Wildeman, Dark Hops appears as advertised - dark. Dark tan head leaves foamy lace.

Smell is caramel malt sugars, sweet.

Taste is also heavy on the malty side, the diacetyl plays well and adds butterty depth. Reasonably bitter.

Mouthfeel is slippery, medium bodied.

Drinkability is solid, but not a black IPA by US West Coast standards. Solid porter though, delicous really.
