a rather aggressive double ipa, brewed with wet hops, and just really well done. this to me, is the kind of thing these guys do the best, although i havent had a ton of their beers, all the hoppy stuff has been excellent. this has a unique hop profile, i get strong suggestions of fresh mango, white grape, and grapefruit, although its hard to venture a guess as to which varietals are in the mix here, the fruitiness is wonderful, but it also has enough bitterness to help it finish. a lot of these wet hopped ipa types, especially the stronger ones, tend to lack the necessary bitterness, but this one is more balanced, a more full hop spectrum, and i like that a lot. smooth body, simple grain complexion, earthy and pale, not entirely dry, but relaxed and just right with this particular hop profile. good carbonation, even crisp for the style in the finish, and a nice west coasty oily richness to it, super fresh. both of the wet hopped beers i had from berryessa this year were excellent, with a slight edge to the freshie i think. great stuff.
