Poured from a can into a snifter. Golden brown and slightly cloudy with a thick beige head and light lacing. The smell is sweet and of caramel. The taste is nutty with vanilla and oranges. Sweet and comforting.

Poured from can into tulip, 1/2 finger cream colored head, rapidly recedes to a ring around the glass. Opaque dark yellow in the glass, pretty to look at, but miss a good head on this one. Smells bready, fruity esters from the yeast, I get that nice belgian yeast smell that I have come to love. Taste initially of candied sugar, followed up by fruit, and a spicy finish. Great mouthfeel, not the best Tripel I have had, but very solid, and now that it is in cans, there will always be one of these hanging out in my fridge.

New Republic Windlass Tripel

Big thanks to Premo88 for another small batch Texas treat

Two solid fingers off white head cap a really beautiful Tripel. Has the classic look, thickish and just cloudy enough with fine yeast that sets beneath the lasting foam as though it were a crown. Nice.

Amazing aroma, full of vinous tart, bread, righteous fruity sweet notes, hints of spicy yeast, no hint of alcohol, cloean, enticing. Nice.

Not so vinous in the sip, generous amounts of fruit flavor that taste like peach and ripe apple at various temperatures along the way, and some sweet white wine lead a relatively simple taste that is juicy, balanced with hints of herbal hop, and quite tasty.

Nice mouthfeel, low carb., appropriately viscous, with a finish that is juicy and clean.

Biggest surprise of this wonderful box of New Republic beers. Very well done, highly recommended.

750 milliliter bomber poured into chalice

L: amber-gold ... very peachlike; about 50-75% cloudy ... light goes through easy, but it's hard to see through clearly; minimal off-white head

S: very fruity abbey-ale like ... it's got the fruitiness of a dubbel but is missing some of the lighter/citrus/banana-like notes you can get from a tripel ... as it warms, some orange comes through; not getting any traditional malt notes (bread or darker)

T: follows the nose, sweet and fruity, no alcohol taste at first; sour grapes/wine; very candi-sugar enhanced; over time the alcohol is showing itself on a small scale

F: super light and easy-driking for the high ABV ... perhaps a bit soft on carbonation when compared to the standard super-carbonated Belgians, but it's not flat. like it a lot.

O: a fine beer and a good stab at making a classic Belgian style by a crew that is making some fantastic American craft beer. this particular brew is not a chart-topper, and like many American-made abbey ales, it tastes a lot like the candi sugar and not much like beer -- a problem the monks seem to own the market on solving.

big points to New Republic for taking a shot at the tripel. i won't invest the time in another bomber, but i'd definitely order this on-tap on occasion.
