Strong coffee and smoke flavor. Okay but not great porter. No praline taste at all. I tasted no sweetness so my taste differed from the other reviewers.

Poured into a sniffer minimal tan head no lacing. Dark brownish black in the glass, no light passes thru. Maybe a bad allergy day for me, but very little to the nose on this, maybe some faint roasted malt. Taste initially a little sweet, creamy almost lactose/molasses like, some roasted malt chocolate finish with a light earthy bitterness. Easy to drink.

this is one of the more delicious and inventive beers on the menu here at deep ellum. its loaded with molasses and dark caramelized sugar flavor, a nice milk chocolate vibe from a healthy chocolate malt proportion in the grain bill and the lactose sugar added, and a nice earthy roasted bottom end that accentuates the pecans. its really well designed and built. i know pralines are sweet, but i think they could do this just as well without the lactose. its not sticky sweet, but there is more sugar here than my palate really cares for. lots of molasses flavor, which is a plus for me. fortunately there is enough else happening in this beer thats so tasty i cant put it down even with the sweetness. the nuts are a little less pronounced than they could be, but i know its hard to get the flavor of most nuts without using some sort of extract or concentrate, and i dont think they do that here. i get the proteins and the fats from the pecans in the texture, and the flavor is there little bit, but good on them for doing this the hard way. the chocolate flavor here is beautiful, and the roast on the dark end of the malts are great with it. smooth in feel, not too heavy, somewhat as much of a brown ale as a porter in the end, a really clever and well done beer. all in our group were most impressed by this one of all the deep ellum beers.
