Golden Porter with cocoa nibs and coffee.

Our Golden Porter is as confusing as driving in Texas during the winter. No dark colors or ashy flavors, but plenty of sweetness and roast. Enjoy all the cozy flavors of wintertime without any cold weather B.S. like numb toes and frozen windshields. Maybe we don’t have “real” winter, but we can pretend. Whoa, is that a flurry?

Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden amber color with a huge head of off-white foam. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave streaks of foamy lacing on the sides of the glass
Smell – The aroma of the brew is big of a bready aroma mixed with coffee and some sweeter aromas of caramel and toffee. Along with these smells comes some little bit of chocolate and a decent showing of a toast like smell.
Taste – The taste begins with a thick lightly toasted bready flavor that is matched with a touch of cocoa and a moderately strong toffee flavor. There is a little bit of coffee upfront, with this flavor growing stronger and stronger as the taste advances. At the same time the cocoa and the toffee get lighter being replaced by some flavors of a light harvest fruit as well as a decent showing of some grainy flavors. At the very end a bit of earthiness joins the taste, combining nicely with the coffee and the lighter sweetness that is left to leave one with a malty and lightly toasted taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the slightly more thick and chewy side with a carbonation level that is low. For the malty and the “dark” flavors of the brew the feel is great and makes for a nice slow sipper.
Overall - A rather flavorful brew with a decent hit of coffee and a deceptive “darker” flavor. A fun one to try.
