Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into my standard shaker "pint" glass. Appears a hazy crimson / amber color with about a finger of lingering dense eggshell colored foam. Nose and flavor is of medium toasted grains, caramel malts (lots of malt here), bitter, resinous piney hops, citrus fruits (grapefruit pith, lemon). This ale is medium bodied and amply carbonated for it's style. A decent ale that I don't really see around that often.

It poured with a finger of off-tan head with decent retention. The nose was sugary in its malty sweetness. The color was a deep (ruby) red with NE-quality clarity. The mouthfeel was medium with a caramel-like sweetness on the tongue accompanied by a light bitterness. The finish was fairly sweet, offset by a light bitterness, but overall, it was a little too sweet for my liking.

Presentation: 12 oz. brown bottle, no dating that I could find, poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy ruby red color, some setiment floating inside along with carbonation rising. the head formed a creamy tan 1 finger thick with nice retention.

Aroma: Lightly toasted and caramel malts. pleasing, but nothing spectacular.

Taste: Toasted caramel malts up front, then some bitter piney hops come through in the middle, pretty strong. The finish is a mixture of the two, with the sweet maltiness dominating.

Mouthfeel: Light-medium bodied, smooth but a little watery. The carbonation balanced well.

Overall: Okay, but nothing I'd seek out again. Honestly it reminded me more of an Oktoberfest beer than a standard red ale. Worth a shot if you're a fan of the marzens, though.

Poured a nice ruby amber tone with a smallish head. The bouquet had hints of chocolate, caramel and malt. The first few sips lent themselves to the malty character. Smooth finish with a slight aftertaste that disipated seconds after the taste. The mouthfeel was heavier at the begining of the tasting then the end. Still good, yet I felt this worth noting.

This was suprisingly easy to drink. Good taste overall yet no heaviness that I would associate with this level of malt. Decent brew for the ladies.

Thanks to akorsak for hooking me up with this beer. It is certainly an easy session beer by any standard. I drank this last night after polishing off the end of a growler of Hoptimus Prime. That beer is so intensely hoppy it was seriously beating me up. The Green Flash Ruby Red Ale was like a cool refreshing drink of milk after that. As I got further into it I realized more sweet caramel and gentle grapefruit flavors along with the biscuity malt backbone. Everything about this beer is approachable and easy from beginning to end. I have another one in my drawer I didn't even remember that I bought at Capone's. I am glad I do. It is a beer for drinking when you really just want a beer you don't need to over analyze.

Red brown color with a nice clumpy head and sticky lacing. Things go kind of downhill after the appearance. Smell of caramel malt with some nut flavors thrown in. Little bit of citrus hops but not much. Taste is a burst of caramel up front but then it finishes kind of bland. Really weak and watery on the finish. After the appearance this beer is strictly average across the board.

A 12 oz bottle from a variety case purchased as Westy's.

A: The ale is a deeper shade of brown, almost a nut brown color, but with ruby red highlights. The head was decent on pour but has since dissipated to a near-nonexistent ring.

S: The ale has a grainy malt nose with hints of spicy hops.

T: The body of the ale is a thick grainy cereal, with some caramel flavors. The hops are fairly restrained, providing an initial kick of bitterness before fading into the malts. They return near the end but fail to really make much of an impression.

M: The mouthfeel is good, with smooth grains and a hint of tangy hops, but it does come up a little thin at times.

D: A decent session, although it seems to lack the robust flavor that would really push it over the top.

Pours a red colored beer with a good amount of tan head.

Smell is sweet and malty with a limited amount hop aroma mostly only tea and woody scents. Fair amount of fruity aroma and chocolate scent.

Taste is mildly sweet with a good woody and tea like hop hit at the beginning. And that is about it. Subtle flavors are missing here this is just a basic ale.

Mouthfeel is OK.

Drinkability is OK. A disappointment I expected more from the company that made the great IPA.

Pours a light copper/amber color, with some chunks of yeast, and a one finger head. Nice lacing.

Aroma is quite grainy, smelling of malt, raw grain, and a hint of grassy hops.

Flavor is fairly mild, showing mostly grain and bread flavors, finishing with a bit of mild hops. Reminiscent of an oktoberfest/marzen. Mouthfeel is full and well carbonated, drinkability is good.

Not quite as good as the other offerings from Green Flash, but still a solid beer. If I were tasting this blind, I'd first think it was an oktoberfest, not a red ale. It just has that distinctive "lager" flavor, that shouldn't be there in a Red Ale.

Appearance: Very deep red (Ruby..duh!), with a wonderful creamy head that lasts.

Smell: Mostly malt with a brief initial hint of hops.

Taste: Very balanced, maybe slightly towards malt. Sweet, fruity tastes initially which fades fast into a roasted malt flavor. A pleasant hop bitterness finishes on the back of the throat. This beer seems really well mixed with everything working together.

Mouthfeel: Very pleasant medium-bodied feel.

Drinkability: This goes down well. Might be too flavorful to make a full night of it, but it definitely leaves me wanting more.

A- copper with red hues where the light comes through. off white 1/2" with little retent, settles to a tiny ring, lacing on glass

S- toasted malt, caramel, pine hop

T- grassy hops, caramel (syrup like), toasted malts, toffee as well. Bitter, with little sweetness, slight alcohol flavor as brew warms, very nice and interesting balance

M- light syrupy but flows smoothly, good carbonation, dry finish

D- suprisingly bitter, interesting mouthfeel, surprising balance, strong and bold brew. i'll be vistiting this one in the future. I would advice for beginners to hold off on this until you experience a wider variety of ambers.

Burnt orange infused with brick red. This clear-as-a-bell beer is capped by a fabulous looking toasted ecru crown that is firmly creamy and nicely sticky. The foam remains humped in the center as it melts and throws up a impressive number of thick chunks of lace.

The nose is pleasant, although it could use more oomph. There's a toasted caramel malt base with an overlay of citric hops that aren't aromatic enough to allow me to be more specific. However, at least one of the 4-Cs is in the house.

I don't often run across beer in which the flavor sensations of sweet and bitter are much more prominent than the flavors of malt and hops themselves. Odd. Within each mouthful I get the faint impressions of caramel malt and grapefruity hops. It's like my brain is simply filling in the blanks based on what signals it expects to receive from my taste buds. In other words, there is a sufficient *quantity* of malt and hops, yet an insufficient *quality* of malt and hops. If that makes any sense whatsoever.

The finish lacks flavor (like the beginning and the middle) and is impressively bitter considering the style. Although there's nothing really wrong with the firmly medium body and the middle-of-the-road amount of carbonation, it doesn't much matter when my taste buds are left high and dry.

I enjoyed Green Flash IPA and Extra Pale, but Ruby Red Ale suffers the exact same, weakly flavored fate as Nut Brown, only more so. Or should I say, less so? I'm not sure if I got ahold of two bottles from two bad batches, but if this beer is meant to taste this way, don't bother. What's the point of beer that doesn't taste like beer?

Pours a brilliant, black tea color with a light, pillowy cream-colored head. Retention's not bad and average stickage. Lightly herbal, grassy hop aroma and a bit of caramel and crystal malts coming through as well. Aroma is enticing, but muted. Some familiar tea-like tannins throughout the taste, with carbonic acid astringency in the finish. It taste implies overcarbonation but the mouthfeel doesn't agree, it is subtle and pretty spot-on for its style. Some suggestively scorchy malt and an astringent, hoppy finish. This is a decent red ale that I might try again if I found it on-tap somewhere. Very west coast in its overall feel.

Reddish hue towards the core, copper around the edges, lazy medium sized carbonation, Light tan head is creamy and leaves plenty of sticky lacing.

Pretty easy drinking brew overall. Some brandy like quality to it without the alcohol slammer. Some charring wood bitterness attempts to balance out an otherwise caramel malted type brew and does a decent job. I pick up on a citrus (lemon) finisher that cleans up nicely and eliminates the sweet malts almost completely. In the end the sweetness comes back and lingers a bit.

GREEN FLASH is fast becoming a very good brewery. This beer is another example of improving their offerings each year. I'll be watching them grow in quality and production with great anticipation and expectation.

Appearance as the title describes ruby red copper amber is about the hue of this one forms a nice sized off white cream colored head leaves lonely specks of lacing. Aroma contains tart citrus scented hop layers semi sweet caramel malt backbone. Taste is upfront bitter with the hops mellowing as it warms and the malts take shape in more of a balance, the malts come off with a cereal graininess even bitterness overall not bad. Mouthfeel is medium boided eenly carbonated it stays on the palate for awhile after finishing. Drinkability, I could enjoy of a few of these a bit hoppy and up front bitter but nice overall.

This beer is a deep red, amber tinged, brilliantly clear color. The head is a frothy, almost creamy in consistency, tan color. The aroma is thick with crystal malts and a hint of hop character. There is a light citrus component and a bit of a spicy herbal note. There is also a soft fruitiness that reminds me of berries.

The taste is pretty dry up front and there is quite a bit of malt character. I get notes of crystal malt foremost; from notes of caramel and a toasted biscuit like flavor. There is a nice solid hop bite in the finish. There is a bit of hop flavor here that mostly contributes a bit of spiciness and a hint fruit notes. This is a nicely malty brew, that has just enough hop character to be lightly hoppy. To be honest, with a name like Ruby Red I was expecting an intense grapefruit focused hoppiness. Oh well, this is still quite drinkable, and even enjoyable.
