From 12/21/10 notes. Had on tap at Rattle N Hum in NYC.
a - Pours a jet black color with one inch of tan head and light carbonation evident.
s - Smells of coffee, roasted malts, chocolate, bananas, spice, and light vanilla.
t - Tastes of coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, dark fruit, vanilla, and very light alcohol.
m - Medium body and moderate carbonation, very smooth.
d - A very nice, interesting stout. Lots of the normal chocolate and roasted malts combining with bananas and fruits. Would like to try again.

s - Smells of coffee, roasted malts, chocolate, bananas, spice, and light vanilla.
t - Tastes of coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, dark fruit, vanilla, and very light alcohol.
m - Medium body and moderate carbonation, very smooth.

Pours into a jet black color and has a fingernail head that leaves lace down the glass
Smells of chocolate, roasted nuts and hints of coffee
Has a nice creamy taste that leaves a nice aftertaste of chocolate.
Has a medium mouthfeel, a little light for stouts and leads to a good drinkibility.

Appearance: Arrives with an obsidian color and a tan cap that leaves tiny bubbles of lace
Smell: Roasty chocolate with hints of smoke, banana and yeasty phenols
Taste: Roasty chocolate and yeasty phenols with white pepper and coca cola flavors emerging by mid_palate; after the swallow, the sweet and spicy Belgian aspects emerge, adding some banana and woody flavors to the finish
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation
Drinkability: A very nice effort, with lots of Belgian influences; very interesting

On-tap at Green Flash
A: The pour is a dark brown color with a thin tan head on top.
S: The nose is lightly roasty with a surprising amount of sweet malt and some yeasty esters, namely bananas.
T: The roast is more pronounced in the flavor along with some coffee and chocolate and some sweet banana flavor. Surprisingly, this works amazingly well together.
M: The body is medium with a smooth and creamy feel on the tongue.
D: This is easily one of my new favorites from Green Flash. A great combination of traditional stout and Belgian yeast flavors.

A: Pours black with a soft off-tan head. Good retention with some lace out there.
S: Roasted malt with some chocolate and seaside.
T: Not as robust as the Double Stout. Good chocolate and dark malt notes, not overly burnt. Some nice complexity out of the malt with hints of dark fruit.
M: Very smooth, medium-bodied, nice creamy feel.
D: A good beer, but I wasn't overly impressed. I expect great things out of Green Flash because they've been so good in the past, but this is definitely a fine effort.

Still no reviews for this? We tried this a few weeks ago at the Green Flash tasting room and then had it again last night at Small Bar in a tulip glass.
Note: It was served warmer in the Green Flash tasting room, and the coffee flavors were more pronounced here. The Belgian funk taste/smell came through much stronger in the chilled serving at Small Bar.
A: Poured a dark, dark brown (typical stout color) with little head.
S: Stronger coffee smell in the taste at Green Flash. At Small Bar, smelled like a typical stout with a hint of Belgian funk.
T: At Green Flash, tasted like a coffee stout with a hint of Belgian funk. At Small Bar, the taste was a bit more balanced--less coffee flavor and more funk. FWIW, I preferred the taste at Small Bar. Both ways, it was an interesting and fun beer.
M: Not hugely viscous--a bit lighter than some of the Imperial Stouts that I'm used to.
D: While definitely not a session beer, I had no trouble finishing the rather large tulip glass pour that I had at Small Bar. This will be a fun last-beer-of-the-night to mix in occasionally while it's available on tap around town.
