Double Coffee Stout

Enjoyed on-tap @ Naja's Place in Redondo Beach, CA for $9. Tapped into a 16oz William's Sir Perry Pint Glass from the Green Star Tap Handle and a black base.

Aroma- Starts with a huge amount of malt and espresso coffee aroma. Double the amount of coffee as normal and has good dark fruit esters including prunes/raisins. A definite hop aroma is present also.

Appearance- Received with a 1 finger head that is dark brown and has good retention. The body is an opaque brown and leaves tons of lace behind.

Flavor- Very rich and roasty with tons of coffee in the taste again. A bit of unsweetened chocolate is present. The finish has a medium bitterness and a mild alcohol warming. The malts are very roasty and continue throughout the whole drink.

Mouthfeel- Full Bodied, Nice smooth warming, Small amount of Carbonation, and ends with huge coffee on the palate. The coffee is thick here and perfect for the style.

Overall Impression- Very intense coffee flavored stout. Nice amount of alcohol but has only a slight amount of warming. A perfect coffee stout! This is one of my favorites from Green Flash and now hearing that they will be distributed to MO, I will be having much more from this brewery! Get your hands on this if you can!

On-tap @ the Green Flash Brewery

A - Poured a black color with a brown head that leaves lacing behind

S - Is of roasted malt that gives off strong coffee scents

T - Like the smell its like drinking cold carbonated coffee

M - This beer has a fuller body with medium carbonation to it

D - This is a very enjoyable beer I'm not a hue coffee beer lover but this one was pretty damn good yet another Green Flash beer to be on the look out for

Very strong with a tangy bite -- enough to balance the powerful coffee flavors and aromas.

Smell is of coffee and alcohol. Yum.

Taste is tart, with roasted bean and roasted malt.

Body is thick and chewy

Carbonation is about 2.5V.

The coffee flavors may be overpowering to some. Before drinking this beer, you should decide if you believe coffee beers should taste like beer blended with coffee, or should taste like beer with coffee flavors. If the former, I think you'll like this beer. If the latter, you may still appreciate the beer on its merits, but you'll wonder why you didn't just pour a shot into your local brewery's stout.

On-tap at Beachwood BBQ,

A: Pours black with a soapy finger of white head, some good lace.

S: Coffee, some sourness, roasted malt.

T: Coffee heavy, but a lot of sour black malt which wasn't really my thing. Not a lot of chocolate, this is only a minimal character.

M: Thinnish, acrid. Medium to full-bodied. It is smooth, but there is an acid character that seems out of place.

D: Strange that I'm so out of the loop with the consensus, but this is what I tasted. I love Green Flash, but this is not one of their better efforts.

A: The beer is jet black and has a thin beige head that gradually faded away.
S: There is an intense aroma of roasted coffee beans in the nose.
T: The taste is not overly complex but has lots of flavors of dark roasted malts and coffee with some hints of chocolate. There is some bitterness, particularly in the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate.
D: The beer is easy to drink and a good sipper. I would definitely try this again.

Had on tap at Brouwer's at brewer's night with Green Flash. Poured a deep mahogany with a thick chocolate milk-colored head. Smelled distinctly of espresso. Tastes like a bitter chocolate stout with coffee. Coffee definitely dominates the flavor, though. More carbonated that I anticipated. I could drink more of these.

On-tap at Beachwood BBQ. Black beer with a monster expanding freakshow of a charred dark head. Retention was high and lacing was nearing carpet bomb levels. The aroma consists mostly of just loads of coffee, rather dry, then some chocolate maltiness to back it up. Just couldn't write down many more words besides... coffee. Tastes of cold steeped coffee, plums, and some chocolate cake. Nice silky texture to the beer. Very good little coffee bomb which I would like to see more of.

On cask at Beachwood BBQ in an imperial pint glass. On to the beer:

Pitch black in the glass with a beige colored head on top. Lots of thick rings of lacing stick to the glass as it's consumed. The smell is chocolate and coffee, but both are more intense in the mouth than the nose. Lots of semi-sweet choclate along with a heaveny shot of fresh coffee and cream. The alcohol is nowhere to be found. Medium heavy, but not thick and chewy. It actually goes down easy. I could have easily gone for a second pint of this beer, but because I have to drive afterwards, I didn't.

Consumed at Stone on 10/14/2009 in a mini glass. The beer is black with a foamy light brown head.

The nose is big roasted espresso notes, slightly burnt. The coffee overshadows nearly everything but the roast. Light notes of dark fruits are very faint, but I think they're there. The coffee is very powerful.

The flavor is fruity up front, with notes of....apple!? Strange, but fantastic and complex. The coffee seems to fade in and out, hitting my palate in great black waves of espresso and roast. The finish is lingering roast and coffee with some astringency. This is great on cask. The creamy mouthfeel enhances the flavor.

This is a coffee bomb with a fairly unique flavor profile. Recommended.

On tap at tap room. This is double stout dosed with coffee extract, and in my opinion it must be dosed pretty heavily.

Appearance is the same black, with brown pillowy head as Double Stout. Aroma immediately knocks you back with a great coffee aroma. Mild fruity esters appear in the taste alongside the coffee just like the normal brew. Incredible mouthfeel from the oats and the drinkability may suffer a bit compared to the normal version but it certainly doesn't take away from the beer. No problem getting through a goblet of this one. I think it's a great variant on an already great beer.
