From 12/21/10 notes. Had on tap at Rattle N Hum in NYC.

a - Pours an amber color with one inch of off white head and light carbonation evident.

s - Smells of bourbon, oak, vanilla, caramel malts, sugar, and dark fruits. Smells outstanding.

t - Tastes of oak, bourbon, vanilla, caramel malts, bready malts, dark fruits, molasses, and light alcohol. Again, the taste is great.

m - Light to medium body and low carbonation, very smooth body.

d - Wow, I thought this was a great beer. Aside from the Silva Stout, this was the best thing I had by Green Flash tonight. Would love to try this again.

Left over from Oakquinox, I tried a small glass of this today at Stone. The beer appears hazy and tawny with a small head. The nose displays an overwhelming bourbon redolence atop a luscious toffee base with notes of brown sugar. Awesome. A light date presence is perceivable. The bourbon/toffee combination is fantastic. I also detect some earthy notes, as well as oak and a little vanilla.

Bourbon and notes of oak accompany toffee, caramel, and earthy hops in the flavor. Carbonation is low and the mouthful is full and sticky with some alcohol warming. If you like your bourbon barleywine with heavy barrel characteristics you'll love this beer.
