This place is less than a mile from my house so it's a good destination for my husband and I when we don't feel like going far. The tap selection isn't too bad...'ole standards such as Miller, Bud and Coors...but they also have several craft brew taps that rotate fairly regularly. Definitely not a place to go out of your way for in terms of craft beer, but still an ok selection. Service is usually good depending on how busy they are. Food is phenomenal, especially for the price. I really come here for the food. The fries are seriously the best in the area. Really though, if I don't want to go far, this place is a good choice.

Casey's Newtown Square was my go-to bar between the time I first moved to PA and the time I discovered TJ's. It is one of about 4 or 5 bar/restaurants in this Philly suburbs mini-chain. It's a nice standard little place in a small strip mall, not at all a dive (see the Ale House across the street, if you want a dive), and less than a mile from my house. It's basically a tidy little restaurant with a vaguely quasi-British pub feel, and very nice bar that seats a good amount of people. As of October 2010, they now have 2 draught towers on either side of the bar: one with 6 basic macros (Bud, Miller, Guinness, etc.) and another with a selection of about 6 rotating and mostly local--that is, East Coast--micros, ranging from Magic Hat to DFH to Erie Brewing. Service varies: some of the bartenders are tremendous, others cater only to the daily regulars and might leave you straggling, but overall it evens out fairly well. For a smaller place, the food here is great. One of the best roast beef sandwiches I've ever had. A rather large menu with mostly comfort foods and some good seafood dishes, excellent salads, reasonably priced in very good portions.

Casey's isn't a beer destination by any means, but it's definitely a very good and simple restaurant, and with 6 micros on tap, at least they're trying to be in touch with the scene. One of the Bella Vista guys told me he's been trying to get Casey's to embrace the scene more, so we'll see if things improve. Definitely would make life easier for me to have a beer bar in walking distance.
