A: Pours an opaque copper with a light mocha head that's big and foamy at first, but fades somewhat quickly to a thin cap.

S: Very aromatic, nose has spicy notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom as well as strong floral notes, which I would imagine are dominated by hibiscus. There's also a touch of poppy, orange and wheat.

T: Lemon, orange and grapefruit peel come along first, followed by strong floral notes, which I would (again) assume are dominated by hibiscus, ending with strong wheat notes.

M: Medium bodied and smoothsih, though a bit foamy.

O: I can understand why this beer gets an 83, it is strongly floral, perhaps too much so for some people. I liked it and would recommend if you like infused wheat beers or hibiscus.

From 22 oz bomber to nonic pint glass

A: A vibrant copper-tan in color, opaque, as a gentle pour forms a small wispy head that quickly dissipates. Almost no lacing is left behind.

S: Surprisingly aromatic and pronounced nose for the style. The added hibiscus really pokes through, joined by grainy notes. A distinct honey sweetness lingers, reminding of honeyed biscuits.

T: Crisp, grainy biscuity flavors at front of the palate, quickly layered by notes of honey and a subtle berry sweetness. Grassy, floral aspects blend with the brew's sweet aspects toward a short and balanced finish.

M: Light-to-medium bodied complexion, adequate carbonation.

A nice example of the style, easy to drink without anything throwing off the palate. The added ingredients (hibiscus and tea) add touches of nuance without affecting drinkability.

Slghtly hazed yellow-amber in the tall Maredsous goblet. Attractive white foam that lasts a long time. Interesting and distinctive aroma with a flowery, gingery note. Plenty of carbonation and makes for a sudsy mouthful.

Not as light of a body as you might expect with an American Wheat. Substantial but mild flavored malt makes this a more satisfying quaff. Tangy with just a little lemon, but not too tart. Really a tasty quaff with a different sort of spice, nicely subtle. Aroma is pleasing with every sip.

It's a Nouveau Wit. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Baron's Marketplace on West Point Loma.
