Thank goodness for the backlog! Wait, what am I saying? Well, in these cases, I bought, took pics, added & then set aside their 5% ABV versions only to have an 8% ABV version follow, needing the same treatment. Now, I am ready for the review & rating stage & I CAN do each back-to-back in the furtherance of The CANQuest (tm)! Thank goodness. ;=)
From the CAN: "Gluten Free".
They must have known or seen something trending after the initial release of the 5% ABV version in 12-fl. oz. CANs since this one came in a massive 22-fl. oz. CAN! I mention this for a couple of reasons: 1) I am going to be with it for a while & 2) the vent is further back on the lid in this serving size, making it something to be aware of during the Glug.
I Crack!ed open the vent & beCAN a slow, gentle Glug into the awaiting glass. As before, it foamed only briefly & then quickly faded to mere wisps. 8=( The next thing of note was its color. It was MUCH deeper than in its predecessor, being Deep Amber/Light Copper to Copper (SRM = > 13, < 17) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was actually richer in terms of its tea presence, once again not at all sweet on the nose. Hmm. Mouthfeel was weak, thin & watery which was not unexpected. The taste was a real improvement, IMHO, from its predecessor. A LOT less sweet, allowing the lemony tea flavor to shine. Mmm. This was more like it, even if the trade-off was a higher alcohol CANtent. Taste was much closer to the unsweetened sun tea that I used to brew in Puerto Rico in 1993.
It was simply several tea bags immersed in a plastic jug of water & left in the blazing sun for a few days. Once it was tea-like enough, I would put it in the duty reefer & everyone in our tool room could have some. It took some time to hit the sweet spot as far as number of tea bags, length of time, placement in the sun & caffeination, but once we had it dialed in, it was everybody's drink of choice.
The taste here was MUCH less sweet than in the 5% ABV version, making it easier for me to drink. I CANnot stress enough how much I dislike sweets & they tend to burn me out very quickly as a result. This was much more drinkable as a result, which was a good thing since there was nearly twice as much of it. Finish was semi-sweet, but I CAN see drinking this almost any time where the 5% version was more of a Summer beverage. YMMV.
