Not sure why people rated it so poorly...I enjoyed it. If you like more of a malt forward aipa, it's pretty good. Not too hoppy and doesn't really go down like a double ipa or an ipa. It's definitely different. I can smell and taste some banana. Goes down smooth for an 8.5%. 6 pack for 6.99. Can't go wrong.

Imperial Jack is the weirdest beer I've ever tasted. It cannot be an imperial IPA, rather, it's a dank lager with a hint of fumes which escape slightly from the corpses of long dead hops which are completely overpowered by a mash filled dripping sweat sock of malt. The aftertaste hits you in the face like a mud - footed bullying jackrabbit, leaving you grimacing and saying to yourself, "WTF was that?" It's only saving grace is the alcohol content, so after a couple bottles you don't feel bad for having bought a six pack of this swill.

By the date code on my bottle, containing "2017" and this being early February, I think I bought a fresh bottle. The aroma was of an old beer, gone bad. Maybe improper handling? Maybe a confirmation of previous review. This tasted like an experimental recipe of a a friend who home-brews. Time to change it up.

Aroma is fairly strong and hoppy, with a hint of sour citrus, but not remarkable. It pours a clear amber with a so-so pale head that doesn’t last too long. Flavor is hoppy, a little bitter, just slightly fruity, barely says it’s an IPA - let alone a double IPA. Texture is smooth and firm, none too fizzy, though it leaves a hoppy and woody finish and a persistent tingle on the lips. Fair to middlin’ and leanin’ towards fair. Give it a try anyway.

I probably would have rated this beer higher but since it is bottled as a Double IPA I'm going to rate it as such. It poured a typical deep amber colour and quickly dissipating white head. The label brags "malty and heavily hopped" which it is not, malty and lightly hopped is more like it. Floral scent and flavours creep through. I would consider this a typical American IPA, not a Double IPA, but for $2.99 a 22 oz bottle and 8.5 abv it's worth a try.

I don't want to go too hard on this beer because I feel like age might be a culprit here. There was barely any hop character and if it weren't for a strong crystal malt presence, this probably would've been a pretty bland beer. Hoping I'll have a better experience if I find another (hopefully fresh) bottle.

This is an immensely tame DIPA. Despite the 8.5% tag it doesn't present much of a malt base. Instead the hops are a more floral variety, rose petal and perfume. There's an odd after taste I can't explain. Not impressed but it is easy to drink.

Bottle from Trader Joes. Pour looks great, expectations dashed in short order. Aroma is musty and funky, taste follows with some wet paper and paste. Almost hits the mark, but falls short.

One of the worst beers I have ever had. Starts out terrible and then as you consume the beer it gets terribler. A truly terrible tortuous treasonous tacky beer. The brewery should be ashamed.

650 ml big brown bottle, as pictured.
Kind of cloudy, copper color, foam bubbles up then disappears. No lacing to speak of.
Smell has some caramel, lots of fruit, orange or pineapple, but more sweet than hoppy.
Taste starts with a bit of malt sweetness, citrus hops, some more leafy or earthy hops. A bit chalky, more astringent than bitter. Lots of alcohol (8.5%) burn at the end.
Medium body, slick mouth feel, kind of fizzy, high carbonation.
I guess it is categorized as a DIPA because of the higher alcohol and level of hops, but not really balanced, and not easy to drink.

Pour from a 22oz bomber into a Pint glass showed a tasty dark orange brew, head came and went fast but was 1" when it happened. The aroma was more malty/bread like than hoppy which went way South of a DIPA for me...the taste was solid and tasty but again not so much what a person would expect for a DIPA as the hops were MIA...shame to have a solid base like this and not give the hopping as promised. Mouthfeel was medium and with a somewhat dry finish but a very drinkable beer with a nice ABV none the less. Overall this falls short of a DIPA in the hops department but still is good on the flavor tab...this has flavor for sure and a nice ABV. If you are looking for a true DIPA this is not the hop bomb you are looking for.....if this is cheap...pick it up because it's a tasty brew to enjoy for the price.

Not what I would consider a double IPA. Had a weird malty, banana-like fragrance. The taste was very malty with a little bit of fruit and very little hoppiness. The label seems misleading, or just dead wrong. Not hoppy enough to be considered 75 IBU, and 8.5% ABV seems a little miscalculated.

If you can disregard everything on the label and drink it for what it is, it's really not that bad. Probably not something I would pick up again, but still inexpensive and drinkable.
