this is simply sensational! a bourbon barrel aged double ipa, aside from the one elevation used to do, this might be my favorite example of that style ever. its really incredible, takes telluride to a whole new level for me. light amber hue to it, the barrel has obviously changed the color a little darker. it holds its inch and a half of white lacy head, and it smells like the hops have not been too far lost to the flavor density of the whiskey and the wood, which, i promise you, is hard to do. not the least bit sweet, and not balanced by hop bitterness either, it just is fermented way down and the sugars of the bourbon are slight. vanilla and hops arent usually my favorite, but here the piney hops act like more fresh wood for the whiskey notes, something not often see, and very agreeable in terms of flavor. how it can still be so hoppy is beyond me, it holds a ton of hop oily feels to it, and is still carbonated rather well. the amount of time in the barrel is perfect, and the alcohol is entirely absent in smell, taste, and mouthfeel. dangerously drinkable, the essence of the bourbon in a great big ipa thats crafted magically. nothing but love for this, and for telluride brewing after an awesome visit. top tier beverage here, is this packaged does anyone know?
