On cask at Max's today
Light yellow with a fluffy white head with great retention, this beer has great clarity. The nose is delicate, bready and grainy with an earthy, leafy hop character with a touch of lemon. There's just a touch of sulfur, this one smells solid. The palate opens medium-light in body with a nice heft. Quite grainy, there's a pleasing toasted grain sweetness. Moderate hop flavor, delicate and spicy with earthy, lemon flavors. Mildly astringent on the finish with a bit of lingering hop bitterness, this is solid stuff. Carbonation is soft, quite working with the beer, making this quite drinkable.

From a gravity feed keg at Max's the other day. Took a look at the previous review of this brewery's marzen, and it's apparent this is/was a different beer.
The beer pours a fairly light gold color with considerable head retention and a goodly amont of sticky lacing. Unfortunately, while the appearance was attractive, but was to be as good as things would get. On the nose I get some very light bread dough and honey, with almost a slight soapiness. Flavors on the palate replicate the nose (but without the soap), but this beer is very, very light, and is almost watery. Mouthfeel is likewise very light, with almost no finish to speak of. Alcohol was completely unnoticeable, which would normally enhance drinkability, but there just isn't enough flavor to call this beer very drinkable.
While by no means wretched, this really was one of the less interesting beers sampled at the mini-cask festival at Max's.
