Tulip pour at the brewery.
Light brown color with some blonde hues that give it a muddy look that lacks the caramel and oak I generally want to see in a barleywine, American or English. Steady carbonation visible and a light frothy oatmeal head.
The aroma gets things on track though. This smells lovely. Brown sugar, caramel, marshmallow, oak, oatmeal cookie and hints of bourbon. 4.25
The flavor takes me by surprise. Kind of feels like a cross of American and English barleywines. Gooey caramel, oatmeal cookie and brown sugar mingle with a fruity hop profile and/or yeast. Some grape sucker in the mix. Hints of butter and waffle. Plenty going on. 4.25
I'd say the body is a bit thin, but not egregiously so. The booze doesn't show but the sweetness does. A bit of spiciness from the bourbon perhaps. Touches of stickiness. 4
One thing that may be hindering this beer's appeal to me is the damn heat and humidity right now. Why is this on tap when it's 100 degrees outside? I'd probably love this in every way from October to March.

This is right up there with some of my favorites like Firestone Walker Sucaba.
The dark fruits are sweet but not cloying, the bourbon is toasty and full of vanilla, but also smooth and easy to drink.
Overall, this is excellent and it would be nice to see this in bottles!
