This pours an almost-black ruddy color. Thin lacing. Some distinct roast coffee aroma along with a touch of cacao and a whisper of smokey malt undertones. Coffee-forward flavor which dominates and defines this brew, with a more of a stout-roast coming through, and a smooth finish. I pick up hints of a lactic, milk-stout tang that’s barely perceptible but a unique treat. I could definitely see myself drinking more of this once it’s available in cans. It’s a schwarzbier but I’m thinking more stout based on the roast, body and coffee cocoa flavors. Breakfast beer, anyone?
