64 oz growler poured into a nonic.
6% ABV
A - Deep brown in color, Zizani pours from the clear growler equally as clear, forming a tall light khaki head that shrinks to a skim of foam with thin lace covering a majority of the pint.
S - Sharp wild rice gives Zizani's malty brown ale nose a wonderful zip and uniqueness that expends beyond toast, brown sugar, and hints of earthy English hops!
T - The beer's malty brown base is wonderfully offset by a completely unique flavor profile of wild rice kernels and brown sugar sweetness with a toasted rye bread finish. Zizani has a somewhat familiar flavor profile that's also completely different!
M - Smooth and malty, this brown has a medium body that teeters between sweet and dry as the carbonation finish sets in, scrubbing the tongue clean.
O - Out of all the beers I experienced on tap during my visit (and I tried them all), Zizani stood out to me the most, calling for a growler. This beer features a deliciously malty backbone of toasted rye bread and brown sugar sweetness but the overtones of wild rice are not to be missed, and ZIzani clearly doesn't use this adjunct to cheapen the beer. It's flavor addition is what makes this brown ale stand out, head and shoulders above the crowd!
