Serving: On tap at the brewhouse in a pint
Served: 3 Jan 2016
Appearance: Pours a pretty standard amber color with a tan head that collapses to a sheen of bubbles and leaves a pinch of lacing in the glass. Crystal clear beer with some carbonation coming up from the bottom.
Smell: Crackery, biscuity malts, honey, wheat bread, oatmeal, and a pinch of noble hop spiciness. Pretty clean smelling.
Taste: The taste is similar to the nose, but I found it sweeter than anticipated. There are no off flavors in my opinion, but the beer is definitely not as rich as I would expect for the style. Good balance between slight hop bitterness and the malts though.
Mouthfeel: In my opinion, this is the beer's weakest attribute- Altbiere should be creamier than this. This one drinks more like a standard amber ale. Too much carbonation for the style.
Overall: Not a bad beer by any means, and one that's easy drinking for those who are looking for a reasonable malty beer without making the plunge into the Black Hole of stouts and porters.
