Black with slight traces of purpled scarlet around the extreme edges. The head is short and tan.
The nose is full of smoked beef, espresso, grill residue, char, and caramel. It's the perfect intersection of sweet and burnt. It simply smells delicious.
Taste begins so full of smoke and meat that a Bamberg rauchbier is immediately suggested. It tempers over the sip, as it mimics a coffeehouse specialty. Full of roast beans, caramel and vanilla, topped with milky whipped cream and maybe even drizzled with honey and bits of dark chocolate. I don't get much oatmeal out of this, but whatever.
The substancial malted flavor seem to need a slightly larger frame. It's a bit thin-seeming, but maybe that adds to the drinkability. This is insatiably downable, and friggin' tasty to boot.
Reminds me of a session version of Dark Horse's Smoked Stout. And that's very good in my eyes.
Nice little thing here.
Props, Huge!

1/2 gallon growler.
Ink Black. Dense. Creamy brown head with good retention. Lacing is very nice. Droopy rings everywhere. Aroma is pleasing. Cocoa powder, vanilla bean, roasted malts and chocolate. Taste follows suit. Great roasted bitterness. Very refined. Milk chocolate comes through in a big way. A little java. Roasted malts. Very clean flavor profile. The mouthfeel is silky smooth. Body is about medium. And this is so damn drinkable. I was downing this like it was a witbier before when I was hot and sweaty from my workout. Good stuff.
