Addlepated Ale

Enjoyed on tap at Titletown. Special thanks to my very knowledgable server for the recommendation. This was served chilled in a Nonick Pint.

A) Nice looking amber with under a finger of creamy off white head upon arrival. Nice retention, ample lacing.

S) The initial aroma is malty sweetness, with a just a whiff of smoke. This was followed by some pleasing earthy hops.

T) Somewhat like the nose. There's some nice toasty and nutty flavor here too. Closes with some hop bitterness. Grassy, piney, touch of citrus.

M) Medium body with light carbonation. Smooth, easy drinking. Finishes up dry...

O) A very unique take on an amber, but it sure does work. I enjoyed every sip of this tasty brew.

Paired with the fish and chips...

We were in Green Bay over the weekend for a wedding and stopped in at the Titletown Brewery to sample their beer. We each had a pint of the Addlepated Ale, a new beer, and found it to be a winner. It poured a golden color with a thin creamy head. The aroma was nicely complex - a malt base, a little biscuit and oak, with a hoppy spiciness on top. The taste was well balanced, a dry finish, with a bitter tang at the end. The mouth feel was smooth and silky but not too rich. What set this beer apart was a "woody" taste. We were told that the brewer uses a spiral of oak in the brewing process. With a 6.5% ABV, Addlepated Ale is a lovely beer. We hope they will consider brewing this beer year round. We liked it enough to buy a growler to take back to the Twin Cities with us. Hats off to Titletown Brewery!
