Thanks Matt for sending down this mystery growler for Dan's bday.
Had a couple pours over the course of the evening, review from brief notes.

Dark brownish tawny amber in the glass, good clarity and surface coverage. Tan foam lasts for a bit, leaving behind a swirling yinyang pattern of skim floating in the center of the snifter glass.

Husky grain aromas, lightly toasty and only vaguely sweet.
Some firm bitterness in the taste, light notes of dried fruits from the yeast, a bit of toasted malt and grainy complexity, hints of smoke that could be attributed to peated malt. Body is a bit light with low to medium carbonation, the growler was a few days old, so that may be the reason.

Really didn't figure this to have an abv over 6%, so 8.5% is a well-hidden surprise.

This is my first heavy scotch ale and I see I am going to have to put this one down and sip a little at a time.

Perhaps its not the best time of year for me to review it. My pallette is getting tired of heavy beers and I should do a two week pale ale rinse.

It does have a good two finger head and a nice syrupy consistency.

Look is dark brown in the glass and deep red in the sunlight.

Taste is heavy on the toffee, raisuns, and plums with some dark brickle mixed in. Also a heavy brandy flavor.

I recommend this one as mixed with dulcera sweetened condensed milk and heated until it carmelizes and poured over ice cream (vanilla, rum raisin, or pralines and cream).

It would also be good as a soak for venison mixed with black pepper, garlic salt. onions and marjoram. Or if you want a quick fix, mix in a shot with gravy (preferably col sanders)

Final good place is in a brandy snifter after finishing the ski slopes.
