From a 16oz can, dated 01/05/22. Purchased at the brewery 02/28/22. Served in a spiegelau IPA glass.
Pours a clear bright copper-gold with a big three finger head of lush, cream-colored foam. Retention is excellent, leaving a thick, foamy cap and a tattered curtain of bubbly lacing.
Nose is sweet, fruity and a bit flowery. Strong aroma of ripe mango and a hint of sweet orange.
Taste is thankfully way less sweet than expected and, in fact, pretty much does a 180° to the nose by being biscuity, flowery, and at least somewhat bitter. Front end is dominated by bergamot/bitter orange and ripe honeydew melon, with the mango being rather thin and a little bit sour and only appearing at the very end of the sip and on into the aftertaste.
Feel is slick and tongue coating. Medium bodied with gentle but pretty much appropriate carbonation. Slick, slippery, vegetal feeling if that’s even a thing.
Overall, a bit of a mixed bag for me. By and large, and despite the mango and my misgivings, it turned out to be a pretty standard American IPA and a decent enough tasting one at that. The mouthfeel however was weirdly vegetal, sort of like a pumpkin beer if that makes sense - not awful by any stretch, but not ideal either. Shrug.
